National Productivity Council (NPC)
Recently, the National Productivity Council has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), under which NPC will function as the Environment Audit Designated Agency (EADA).
🔹 About National Productivity Council
- It was established in 1958 as an autonomous organization.
- It functions under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
- It is a multipartite, non-profit organization with equal representation from:
- Employers’ organizations
- Workers’ organizations
- Government
- Technical and professional institutions
- Headquarters: New Delhi
- It is a member of the Tokyo-based Asian Productivity Organisation (APO), of which India is a founding member.
- NPC has professionals from diverse fields who provide:
- Consultancy
- Capacity Building
- Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) services
to various organizations, including Central and State Governments.
🔹 Objectives
- To increase awareness of productivity concepts and techniques
- To strengthen the microeconomic foundations of economic development
- To function as a think tank for the Government
- To provide high-quality productivity consultancy and training services
- To enhance focus on productivity
🔹 Functions
- Providing consultancy to organizations for productivity improvement
- Training personnel at different levels
- Disseminating information through seminars, workshops, and conferences
- Conducting productivity research and maintaining databases

Global Terrorism Index 2026
Recently, the Global Terrorism Index 2026 has been published by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), an independent, non-profit think tank based in Sydney.
- It is a comprehensive study analyzing the impact of terrorism in 163 countries, covering about 99.7% of the world’s population.
🔹 Methodology
- The GTI assigns each country a score on a scale of 0 to 10:
- 0 = No impact of terrorism
- 10 = Highest measurable impact of terrorism
- It produces a composite score, on the basis of which countries are ranked.
🔹 Key Highlights of Global Terrorism Index 2026
- Deaths due to terrorism have decreased by 28%.
- Terrorist incidents have declined by 22%.
- Six out of the ten most affected countries are in Sub-Saharan Africa, indicating that the region remains the epicenter of terrorism.
- For the first time, Pakistan ranks as the most affected country in the index.
- India is placed at 13th position in the list.
