Filmmaker Pritish Nandy passes away
Famous filmmaker and journalist Pritish Nandy passed away on 8 January due to a heart attack.
- Nandi was 73 years old and was suffering from pancreatic cancer.
- He had produced 24 films like 'Chameli', 'Sur' and 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi'.
- He was the editor of 'The Illustrated Weekly of India'.
- He was a Shiv Sena MP in the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra between 1998 and 2004.
He wrote more than 40 books of English poems. He also translated poems from Bengali, Urdu and Punjabi into English.

ISRO postpones docking of SpaDeX mission for the second time
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has once again postponed the docking process of the Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission.
- It was postponed after excessive drift was detected between 2 space satellites.
- Earlier, space docking was to take place on January 7, but even then it had to be postponed.
- ISRO launched SpaDeX i.e. Space Docking Experiment mission from Sriharikota on December 30.
- Under this, two spacecraft were deployed 470 km above the earth by PSLV-C60 rocket.

Madhya Pradesh government launches Parth scheme
To reduce unemployment in the state, the Madhya Pradesh government on January 8 launched the Police, Army Recruitment Training and Hunar (Parth) scheme.
- The Chief Minister launched the scheme at the closing ceremony of State Youth Festival-2025 at TT Nagar Stadium.
- Under the scheme, the state government is going to open Parth Centers at 10 division-wise places in the state through the Sports and Youth Welfare Department.
- At these centers, physical and mental training will be provided to the youth willing to join Central Police Force, Central Paramilitary Force and Indian Army.
- These Parth Centres will be established in those campuses of the department where there are athletics tracks.
- Right now only a 3 month course has been prepared. For this the trainee youth will have to pay a fee between one to one and a half thousand rupees.
- After this, short term, medium term and long term courses will also be prepared.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launches song dedicated to Mahakumbh 2025
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched a special song 'Mahakumbh Hai' dedicated to Mahakumbh 2025 on 8 January.
- This song is written by famous writer Alok Srivastava, composed by musician Kshitij Tare and sung by singer Kailash Kher.
- Apart from this, Ashwini Vaishnav also launched an All India Radio composition 'Jai Mahakumbh' dedicated to Mahakumbh 2025.
- This song has been composed by Santosh Nahar and Ratan Prasanna and has been voiced by Ratan Prasanna himself.
- This year the Maha Kumbh is being organised from 13 January to 26 February in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

Hollywood in danger of burning in California fire
The fire that broke out in the forests of Los Angeles city in California province of America on January 8 has now reached Hollywood.
- The fire also destroyed bungalows of many Hollywood stars including Paris Hilton, Steven Spielberg, Mandy Moore, Ashton Kutcher in the posh Palisades area of LA city.
- The way the fire is spreading, there is a danger of the 'Hollywood Billboard', the identity of the American film industry, burning down in the middle of Hollywood Hills.
- More than two thousand firefighters are deployed on the spot to extinguish the fire.
- More than 50 helicopters are also engaged in pouring water and chemicals.
- In the past 50 years, California's forests have experienced more than 78 fires.
- The 1933 Griffith Park fire in Los Angeles was California's largest fire, in which about 83,000 acres of area was destroyed.
- About 3 lakh people had to leave their homes and go to other cities.
