Union Carbide waste removed 40 years after Bhopal gas tragedy
337 metric tonnes of toxic waste from Bhopal's Union Carbide factory was removed after 40 years.
- Union Carbide's chemical waste will be incinerated at the Ramky Enviro factory located at Ashapura village, Pithampur (Dhar district) near Indore.
- Ramky Enviro Plant is operated as per the guidelines of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
- Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had set a deadline of January 6 for removal of the garbage.
- The government has to present the report in the High Court on Friday, January 3, 2025.
- On the night of 2 and 3 December 1984, toxic methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas leaked from the Union Carbide pesticide factory. About 5479 people died in this incident.
'Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh: Through the Ages' book released
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on 2 January released the book 'Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh: Through the Ages' in New Delhi.
- 'Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh: Through the Ages' has been published in 7 volumes.
- It contains the history of 3 thousand years of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh.
- This book has been prepared in collaboration with the National Book Trust and the Indian Council of Historical Research.
India-Nepal joint military exercise 'Surya Kiran' begins
The bilateral joint military exercise 'Surya Kiran' between India and Nepal Army started on December 31.
- This is the 18th edition of the 'Surya Kiran' exercise.
- A contingent of 334 soldiers of the Indian Army is participating in this exercise.
- The Indian Army contingent in the 'Surya Kiran' exercise is being led by a battalion of the 11th Gorkha Rifles.
- The 17th edition was held last year in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
- The foundation of this military exercise between India and Nepal was laid in the year 2011.
